Duomo Museum and Panorama del Facciatone ★★

Duomo Museum Siena Itinerary and Things To Do
Panorama del Facciatone Siena Italy

The Duomo museum houses some of the cathedral’s original art, including Donatello’s Madonna and Child. The museum itself is a 1-star attraction, but the view from the Panorama del Facciatone, located at the top of the museum, is worth 3 stars. So, we averaged it out to 2 stars for our rating.

Cost and Hours: €13 Opa Si Pass includes Duomo, Duomo Museum, Baptistry, and Crypt. Open daily 10:30am-5:30pm (closes 7pm April-October). Open public holidays 1:30pm-5:30pm.
Address: Piazza del Duomo, 8, 53100 Siena SI, Italy

Baptistry of San Giovani

Baptistry of San Giovani Siena Italy

This early renaissance building is a work of art in itself. It doesn’t take long to see, so make an effort to go inside if you bought the Opa Si Pass. There are several works of art by Donatello here. Don’t forget to look up at the ceiling.

Cost and Hours: €13 Opa Si Pass includes Duomo, Duomo Museum, Baptistry, and Crypt.
Address: Piazza S. Giovanni, 53100 Siena SI, Italy

Crypt

Crypt Siena

This crypt is worth a look if you bought the Opa Si Pass. It shows the remains of the previous church on which the current cathedral was built. This practice of building civilizations one on top of another is common throughout Roman Europe. This is a rare chance to see inside the earlier version.

Cost and Hours: €13 Opa Si Pass includes Duomo, Duomo Museum, Baptistry, and Crypt.
Address: 53100 Siena, Province of Siena, Italy

Siena City Walk ★★★

Piazza del Campo in Siena Italy

Siena is one of the prettiest and best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. The most important thing you can do here is walk around town and take in the ambiance. You can easily do this on your own. Start at Il Campo (the main plaza) and branch out from there, wandering aimlessly to your heart’s content. Try to make time to have a drink or snack at one of the bars on Il Campo. We wouldn’t recommend eating a meal here, as the food is overpriced and mediocre, but buying a drink or dessert to enjoy people watching on this plaza is a good value, especially in the early evening.

If you prefer seeing the city with a local guide, this guided tour of Siena is a good choice. It also offers the option to add on a guided tour of the cathedral (you must buy your cathedral ticket separately, see detailed instructions before purchasing the walk). Cost is approx $26 per person, and you must book in advance.

Alternatively, you can book a private tour of Siena if that’s more your style.
