A day trip to Giverny from Paris is a must for Monet fans. This guide has everything you need to plan your trip.
Giverny is the home of Claude Monet’s garden, which he created and used as inspiration for hundreds of paintings. Monet is one of the most famous of the impressionists, and our personal favorite. If you love Monet, make this trip a priority. Walking through his garden is like walking into an impressionist painting. Of note, if you are combining this with a trip to Paris, try to visit the Orangerie and the Musee d’Orsay before heading to Giverny.

Walk Around Giverny ★

Giverny is one of the tiniest, most adorable little towns in France. It’s worth giving yourself a few minutes to wander down its flowery lanes if you have the time.
Claude Monet’s Grave
Monet is buried a few minutes walk from his home in the graveyard behind the church he attended, Eglise Sainte-Radegonde. Most people skip this stop unless they have a particular interest.

How To Get To Giverny From Paris
There are two convenient ways to get to Giverny – bus tour or public transportation.
Bus tour
There are several options for bus tours, most of them big-bus style. You can peruse all your options here. We find that for about €20 per person extra, you can get a much more pleasant small-group experience. We recommend this tour, which costs about €100 per person.
Public Transportation
This is easy to do on your own, and gives you the freedom to move at your own pace. It is also the most affordable option. The only major downside is that the trains are infrequent, which can leave you waiting around for a while.
Take the 55-minute train from Paris Gare St. Lazare to Vernon (this train is Rouen-bound). In Vernon you will need to take a short bus ride to Giverny (€10 round trip). It generally leaves right away after the train arrives, so don’t waste any time getting in line for the bus. It will drop you off near the gardens. Follow the crowds or Google Maps to get you to the entrance.
Returning to the station, the bus picks you up in the same place it dropped you off. The buses are generally well-synced with the trains, but you will need to study the timetable and make sure you don’t miss your bus back. For timetable and more info about getting to Giverny, click here.
