Sevilla is the capital of Andalucía (southern Spain). This region of the country best exemplifies what people imagine when they plan a visit to Spain. If you think of matadors, tapas, sherry, and flamenco when you think of Spain, Sevilla is the place for you. You could easily spend a week soaking up the culture here, but this 2-day Sevilla itinerary will take you to the major sites.

Day 1 – Sevilla Itinerary For 2 Days

Alcazar ★★★

Alcazar Sevilla Spain

The Alcazar Real was originally built in the 11th century by the Moors. However, much of it was destroyed and rebuilt after the reconquest of Sevilla in 1248. This fortress-style palace was built in the Mudejar style, which essentially describes the Spanish practice of building in a Moorish style during the few centuries following the Christian reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula. Therefore, though mostly Moorish in appearance, there are Christian/Spanish elements worked in and references to the Spanish royalty. This makes for a very interesting structure.

If you reserve at least 2 weeks in advance online, you can pay an extra €6.50 to visit the royal apartments upstairs, which the current Spanish royalty use when they are in Sevilla. You can explore the Alcazar on your own or with a guided tour. If you prefer a guided experience, this tour of the Alcazar and Catedral de Sevilla is one of the most popular tours in town and fits perfectly into this 2-day Sevilla itinerary.

Cost and Hours: €13.50 per adult. Open daily 9:30am-7:00pm (last entry). Last entry 5:00pm Nov-Mar.
Address: Patio de Banderas, s/n, 41004 Sevilla, Spain

Catedral de Sevilla ★★★

Tomb Of Christopher Columbus Catedral de Sevilla Spain

The Catedral de Sevilla is the largest gothic structure in the world. This medieval church was built on the site of an old mosque after the reconquest of Sevilla. The most notable sights in the nave are several paintings by the Spanish master Bartolomé Murillo, as well as the tomb of Christopher Columbus. You can also climb the bell tower (giralda) for a great view of the city.

You can explore the Cathedral on your own or with a guided tour. If you prefer a guided experience, this tour of the Alcazar and Catedral de Sevilla is one of the most popular tours in town and fits perfectly into this 2-day Sevilla itinerary.

Cost and Hours: €12 per adult. Open Mon-Sat 10:45am-5:00pm, Sun 2:30pm-6:00pm.
Address: Av. de la Constitución, s/n, 41004 Sevilla, Spain

Santa Cruz Stroll ★★★

Barrio Santa Cruz Sevilla Itinerary

Sevilla’s old Jewish quarter is one of the main tourist attractions in town. Strolling through this cluster of medieval alleyways, small orange-tree-lined courtyards, and white-washed homes is the quintessential Sevillan experience.

You can easily wander these lanes on your own, stopping whenever you like for a coffee or snack. The main purpose of this walk is to soak up the charm. However, if you want to learn something on your stroll, opt for a guided tour of the neighborhood (barrio). This guided tour of Barrio Santa Cruz is a good bet.

Day 2 – Sevilla Itinerary For 2 Days

Today is a relatively light sightseeing day. If you have extra time after seeing the Plaza de España, consider visiting one of the museums described in the if you have time section.

Setas de Sevilla (Metropol Parasol) ★★

Setas de Sevilla Spain

This market is either a modern art masterpiece or an eyesore, depending on who you ask. Officially known as the Metropol Parasol, it is nicknamed the Setas for its mushroom-like shape. This building houses a large food market on the ground floor, which is a great place to pick up picnic snacks for later or to sit down and try one of the tapas bars.

Once you have had your fill, head up to the second floor for fantastic views of Sevilla. There is also an elevated walkway on top of the wooden “roof” structure that you can pay extra to walk around, as well as an underground museum (antiquarium) about the roman ruins beneath the structure – see website for details.

Cost and Hours: Free to enter (do not buy tickets on the website unless you plan to go to the elevated walkway or museum). Market open 8:00am-3:00pm. Structure open 9:30am-midnight.
Address: Pl. de la Encarnación, s/n, 41003 Sevilla, Spain

Triana stroll ★★

Triana Sevilla Spain

Triana is the neighborhood (barrio) just across the Guadalquivir River from the rest of Sevilla. It has an independent nature and working class roots. This area used to be run-down in comparison to the rest of town, but now is one of the most visited barrios.

Triana is also where you will find most of the workshops for the ceramic tiles you see all around Sevilla (this makes it a great place to buy tile souvenirs). Wander the streets on your own or take Heart of Sevilla’s free guided tour of Triana. As with nearly all “free” tours, a €15 per person tip is expected – give this to your guide at the end.

Plaza de España ★★

Plaza de Espana Sevilla Itinerary Spain

This plaza is the grandest of Sevilla’s many public squares. This enormous space boasts a large crescent-shaped building you can (and should) walk through, as well as a water element you can enjoy from land or by rental boat. The plaza is set in the Parque de María Luisa, which is a great place to relax and rest your feet for a while.

Address: Av. Isabel la Católica, 41004 Sevilla, Spain

Flamenco Show ★★

Flamenco Show Sevilla Spain

Flamenco is the legendary artform of Sevilla. Watching a flamenco performance, with its music (usually guitar and castanets), singing, and dancing, is a quintessential Spanish experience, and a must for any Sevilla itinerary.

While there are some touristy “dinner and a show” options, you’ll get the most authentic experience if you go to a dedicated performance. These usually last about an hour. We like the Flamenco Dreams Show at the Flamenco Dance Museum (Museo del Baile Flamenco), which takes place in their traditional Andalusian courtyard. Seating is first-come-first-serve, so get there a few minutes early.

If You Have Time – Sevilla Itinerary For 2 Days

Plaza de Toros (Bullfight Museum)

Sevilla’s bullring (plaza de toros) is perhaps the most famous in all of Spain. Built in the 18th century, it has hosted bullfights for hundreds of years. If you have time, tour the arena and associated museum.

Cost and Hours: €10 per person. Open for touring 9:30am-7:30pm daily (closes 3:30pm on bullfight days).
Address: P.º de Cristóbal Colón, 12, 41001 Sevilla, Spain
Website: www.visitaplazadetorosdesevilla.com

Flamenco Dance Museum (Museo del Baile Flamenco)

Flamenco Dance Museum Sevilla Itinerary

This museum is all about the art of Flamenco dancing. It was founded by arguably the world’s best Flamenco dancer, Christina Hoyos. It mostly consists of a bunch of video clips demonstrating the dance, and focuses less on the history of the art. A visit to this museum is a good way to kill time before a show, but it is probably not worth going out of your way to do.

We do, however, recommend attending their Flamenco Dreams Show, which takes place in their traditional Andalusian courtyard. Seating is first-come-first-serve, so get there a few minutes early. They also offer Flamenco dancing lessons here – see website for details.

Cost and Hours: €10 per person. Open 11:00am-6:00pm (the first monday of every month the museum opens at 4:00pm).
Address: C. Manuel Rojas Marcos, 3, 41004 Sevilla, Spain

Parque de María Luisa

Parque de Maria Luisa Sevilla Spain

This beautiful, sprawling park is a great place for both tourists and locals to relax. You can rent a boat, go for a stroll, or just sit on a bench and rest your feet for a while. It is also a good spot for exercising, if that is important to you on vacation.

Address: P.º de las Delicias, s/n, 41013 Sevilla, Spain

Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla

This museum boasts one of the world’s best collections of Spanish masters (Goya, El Greco, Murillo, etc). While not nearly as exhaustive as the Prado’s museum in Madrid (check our 4-day Madrid itinerary post), this collection of paintings may be Spain’s second best. Though most people don’t go to Sevilla for the museums, this one is a worthy stop if you love fine art. Plus, it’s a very inexpensive stop at only €1.50 per person.

Cost and Hours: €1.50. Open Tues-Sat 9:00am-9:00pm, Sun 9:00am-3:00pm. Closed Mondays. Closes 3:00pm Tues-Sun in August.
Address: Pl. del Museo, 9, 41001 Sevilla, Spain

Tourist Sevilla is small. You can get everywhere you want to go on foot. There is no need for a car here.

Sevilla Fair In April

Sevilla hosts a huge feria (festival) in April. This is a great spectacle to see, with daily bullfights and flamenco dancing. They also host a week-long Easter festival every year around this time.
